Tea time with Arto!

February 28, 2007

"Where the fuck is my bike?!"

Arto Saari dropped by etnies this afternoon for some shoe biz. In between meetings we squeezed in some time for a cafe break. I mentioned to him that he was #1 for coverage last year as far as TransWorld Business' "Exposure-O-Meter" was concerned.

Arto then unleashed the quote of the day, "Where the fuck is my bike?!" Evidently he wants a new motorbike and wants etnies to get it for him for his exposure-iffic feat. I second that....

Go Jimmy!

February 28, 2007

I don't normally repost stuff that I see elswhere, but I couldn't ignore this. Mihaly posted it on The Skateboard Mag's site yesterday. It's a nice reminder that skateboarding is for anyone, no matter what. And it's whatever you want it to be. Not only that, but you can reinvent it and make it your own and no one can stop you or tell you you're wrong. Kinda neat, huh?

At least someone is doing something original and inspirational on a skateboard lately. There are...

Bling Hydrants!

February 27, 2007

Every time someone comes to see me in Laguna Beach they are super impressed/surprised/weirded out by this golden fire hydrant on the corner of my street. So I just figured I might as well show the rest of the world that in Laguna Beach, there are indeed, crazy gold fire hydrants. Do what you will with this important information.

Custom graphics!

February 27, 2007

I found this random photo I took of a prototype Element shape that Tim O'Connor gave me back when he rode for them. Complete with one-of-a-kind flowery metrosexual hand-drawn graphics from Tim! Whooopeeeee! I actually rememeber riding this board for a longer time than normal and loving it. As I write this I'm beginning to realize how pointless it is...I suck.

Karl Watson on Manuals!

February 26, 2007

Finally, I am getting back to these. As promised, Karl Watson from the the never-before-seen manual article interviews from a few years ago. Still to come are Henry Sanchez and Biebel!

Karl. My name's Robert, I'm calling from Strength magazine and we're doing an article on manuals.

On manuals?

Yeah, like the evolution of manual tricks and we wanted to know if you wanted to answer a few questions for us.

No problemo!

Per's Soapbox!

February 26, 2007

In the wake of all this World Without Pros and A World Without CEOs blank board vs. shop board vs. pro board drama. And while in the middle of putting together more stuff for the Big Brother Tribute pages, I found this one from Per Welinder back in Big Brother #6 and thought it might be kind of interesting for people to read. Click the image for the full article.

Quote of the Week!

February 25, 2007

"There's nothing wrong with not surprising people. In fact, most of the time, you don't want to surprise people. I don't want to be surprised when I use an electric drill, and I don't want to be surprised when they're doing surgery on me.

But if you want the word to spread, if you expect me to take action I've never taken before, it seems to me that you need to do something that hasn't been done before. It might not feel safe, but if you do the safe thing, I guarantee you won't surprise anyone. And if you don't surprise anyone, the word isn't going to spread."
