Gino Iannucci...

It was really just a random impulse when I wrote about Gino last week, but it turns out, if you haven't heard already, you'll be hearing some real bummer news about him shortly...maybe I'm strangely psychic? Whatever the case, Gino is the best.

Gino Iannucci has allegedly quit all his sponsors and retired from professional skateboarding. The skateboard community will more the loss of a great innovator and positive influence. Gino was no bullshit, no image, just skateboarding

sjaak, you're an idiot. Gino was the best and its people like you that are the reason he retired. He skated because he loved it, not to get footy to impress you. Do me a favor and go back to watching the Baker video...

Gino was a childhood friend of mine and I have known him for over 16 years. He is straight up and just over it. He loved skatebording to no end. I can guarantee that he still skates on Long Island...just keeps it underground. He will continue to progress skaeboarding, but no one will ever know.

After reading some of these comments, I am bothered by the "lazy bastard" remark. I am Gino's sister and I can say for certain that he is all about skateboarding through and through, but there comes a time in your life when it gets harder to jump on the board as you did when you were 21. He feels it is time to give it up to the younger crowd now. Believe me, this decision has been extremely hard for him. And it has taken a toll on him. As far as "giving up all of his sponsers," this is not entirely true as of yet. He is still with Nike and I see that Chocolate still counts him in as a member since he is still advertized on their site. I know I can't control critics and it is unrealistic to expect to try, but I would ask that you think before you intend to write ignorant remarks, especially if you don't Gino personally.

    Thanks,
    Nancy Iannucci

Thanks for the clarification Nancy. I was wondering about Gino's status after I saw his picture on the new crail catalogue. Tell Gino that those who really know skateboarding are inspired by his contributions evertime they step on their boards. Also, say hi to your Aunt in Rome. I met her while I was going to high school there. She stopped me on the street because I was carrying one of Gino's boards.
